At Descent of Elysium, well-being has always been at the heart of everything we do.<\/p>

I grew up in a family with a strong healthcare background. Healthcare and wellbeing were topics that were regularly discussed at home. Later, I chose a career in healthcare myself, qualifying as both a physiotherapist and psychologist.<\/p>

Through my education and clinical work, I learned the importance of evidence-based medicine, anatomy, physiology, rehabilitation, and the complex relationship between body and mind. Yet alongside conventional medicine, I was also exposed to a different perspective\u2014one that looks beyond individual symptoms and considers the body as an interconnected whole.<\/p>

I became increasingly fascinated by the idea that health is not simply the absence of disease, but the presence of balance.<\/p>

When dogs entered my life, and later my breeding journey, that same philosophy naturally followed. Like many responsible breeders and owners, I rely heavily on modern veterinary medicine. Health testing, diagnostic imaging, physiotherapy, and preventative healthcare are invaluable tools. They provide information that helps us make informed decisions for our dogs.<\/p>

But<\/strong> over time I found myself asking the same question that had intrigued me for years:<\/p>

Why do some individuals thrive while others struggle, even when their medical tests look similar? Or why do some struggle with perfect health tests and imaging, and others with less perfect imagine have no clinical symptoms at al?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) approaches this question differently. Rather than focusing solely on disease, it looks at patterns within the body. Digestion, movement, emotions, hormones, sleep, environment, and energy are viewed as interconnected pieces of a larger picture.<\/p>

Instead of asking only, “What is wrong?” it also asks, “Why has the body become imbalanced and how do we restore the bodies own natural healing system?”<\/p>

Today, we apply many of these principles to our own dogs. This may involve adjusting nutrition according to individual needs, supporting hormonal balance during different stages of heat cycles, aiding recovery after intensive training or competition, or using herbs and acupressure as supportive therapies when appropriate.<\/p>

At Descent of Elysium, we believe the strongest approach is one that combines the best of both worlds. Modern diagnostics tell us what is happening. TCM can sometimes help us understand why it may be happening and how we can support the body as a whole.<\/p>

For us, it is not about choosing between East and West. It is about integrating both perspectives in a thoughtful and responsible way.<\/p>

This philosophy influences many of the decisions we make\u2014from nutrition and conditioning to recovery, breeding, and everyday care.<\/p>

In future articles, we will explore topics such as food energetics, hormonal support, acupressure, and how TCM can be incorporated into a modern canine lifestyle.<\/p>

Because true health is not merely the absence of disease.<\/strong><\/p>
